The next Ceilidh\u00a0Dance is not until next year but that is not far away so plan now to attend, put it in your diary, note it on Christmas cards you send to friends and arrange to meet there or mark it on your list of things to do.\u00a0 The date is\u00a0Friday, January 12 at the Scottish Cultural Centre, 8886 Hudson Street, Vancouver.\u00a0\u00a0It is a great way to work off those extra few grams and a fun evening to boot.\u00a0 I am sure we will get a big crowd, tell your friends to come too.<\/p>\n
Groups of 8 or more qualify for a $1 discount so long as you warn me in advance.\u00a0 The “leader” chooses a password that the group knows.\u00a0 You tell me the password; I inform those that are collecting the admission and everyone\u00a0in the group gets admitted for $1\u00a0less than the normal rate.\u00a0\u00a0For the dance on January 12 you\u00a0have until Wednesday (10th) to contact me with the password and the number in your group.<\/p>\n
If you are a bit wary come along to the Ceilidh dance\u00a0on Friday, January 12 at 7 p.m. in the Scottish Cultural Centre, 8886 Hudson Street, Vancouver.\u00a0 The class, which is free, will give you an idea of what we do as we teach all the dances the same way at the class and at the dance.\u00a0 I am sure you’ll want to stay and enjoy the dance.<\/p>\n
What is a Ceilidh dance?\u00a0 It is informal, easy Scottish Country dancing in a relaxed style for all ages.\u00a0 We teach everything, no experience or partner required just a desire to have fun an ability to move to the wonderful beat of the lively music and to enjoy the company of other like-minded folk.<\/p>\n
The leaves are finally down and we have got most swept up or left as mulch.\u00a0 Mist has enshrouded us for the past few days But the sun peeks through occasionally.\u00a0 Dancing is winding down for the holidays although this week we dance 3 times.<\/p>\n

A\u00a0successful Ceilidh Dance was held on November 24 attended by over 70 dancers (a great turnout, thanks – keep\u00a0it up).\u00a0 I hope you all enjoyed the evening and will come back.<\/p>\n
It is\u00a0time to remind you of the Ceilidh dates for this season and in particular the next one this Friday, January 12, 2018 at the Scottish Cultural Centre, 8886 Hudson Street, Vancouver with the usual class at 7 pm\u00a0and the dance following from 8 – 11 pm.\u00a0 Pay at the door – $12 ($10 for students).\u00a0\u00a0Tell your friends etc. about the dances, they are lots of fun.<\/p>\n
The dances are all held at the Scottish Cultural Centre, 8886 Hudson Street, Vancouver (73rd and Hudson which is between Granville and Oak Streets). They are all held on Friday evenings and where possible the last Friday of each month – the exceptions are December (as we never schedule one) and January.\u00a0 Alison and I will be rested and raring to go\u00a0so all we need is you! Hope to see you next year\u00a0on\u00a0January 12.<\/p>\n

There is lots of time for you all to get yourselves and your friends organized to come along for another fun, filled evening. Come and dance, it is lots of fun and really easy. Everything is taught from scratch – you won’t be the only newbie! <\/strong><\/p>\n =========================================<\/p>\n <\/p>\n To my friends who enjoy a glass of wine… and those who don’t. Michelle has very kindly made up a Facebook event page for the Ceilidh but you need to “Search for Vancouver Ceilidh on Facebook and “Like” us to receive updates on upcoming Ceilidhs and other events”. Then, if you “Like” the Vancouver Ceilidh FB page (do as described above), you too will receive updates AND be able to share those updates and events on your personal Facebook page to your friends and ask that they “Like” and “Share”, etc. Ceilidh Dances are great ways to celebrate birthdays, anniversaries etc. Invite all your friends to come and join you at the Ceilidh. \nIf you read this without laughing out loud, there is something wrong with you. This is dedicated to every man who ever attempted to get into a regular workout routine. A must read!<\/p>\n
\nFor my fiftieth birthday this year, my wife (the dear) purchased a week of personal training at the local health club for me.\u00a0 Although I am still in great shape since playing on my high school softball team, I decided it would be a good idea to go ahead and give it a try. I called the club and made my reservations with a personal trainer I’ll call Cindy, who identified herself as a 26-year-old aerobics instructor and model for athletic clothing and swim wear. My wife seemed pleased with my enthusiasm to get started. The club encouraged me to keep a diary to chart my progress.<\/p>\n
\nStarted my day at 6:00am. Tough to get out of bed, but found it was well worth it when I arrived at the health club to find Cindy waiting for me. She is something of a Greek goddess – with blond hair, dancing eyes and a dazzling white smile. Woo Hoo!! Cindy gave me a tour and showed me the machines. She took my pulse after five minutes on the
\ntreadmill.\u00a0 She was alarmed that my pulse was so fast, but I attribute it to standing next\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 to her in her Lycra aerobic outfit. I enjoyed watching the skillful way in which she conducted her aerobics class after my workout today.\u00a0 Very inspiring.\u00a0 Cindy was encouraging as I did my sit-ups, although my gut was already aching from holding it in the whole time she was around.
\nThis is going to be a FANTASTIC week!!<\/p>\n
\nI drank a whole pot of coffee, but I finally made it out the door.\u00a0 Cindy made me lie on my back and push a heavy iron bar into the air-then she put weights on it!\u00a0 My legs were a little wobbly on the treadmill, but I made the full mile.\u00a0 Cindy’s rewarding smile made it all worthwhile. I feel GREAT!! It’s a whole new life for me.<\/p>\n
\nThe only way I can brush my teeth is by laying the toothbrush on the counter and moving my mouth back and forth over it. I believe I have a hernia in both pectorals. Driving was OK as long as I didn’t try to steer or stop. I parked on top of a GEO in the club parking
\nlot.\u00a0\u00a0 Cindy was impatient with me, insisting that my screams bothered other club members.\u00a0\u00a0 Her voice is a little too perky for early in the morning and when she scolds, she gets this nasally whine that is VERY annoying. My chest hurt when I got on the treadmill, so Cindy put me on the stair monster.\u00a0 Why the hell would anyone invent a machine to simulate an activity rendered obsolete by elevators? Cindy told me it would help me get in shape and enjoy life.\u00a0\u00a0 She said some other rubbish too.<\/p>\n
\nCindy was waiting for me with her vampire-like teeth exposed as her thin, cruel lips were pulled back in a full snarl. I couldn’t help being a half an hour late, it took me that long to tie my shoes.\u00a0\u00a0 Cindy took me to work out with dumbbells. When she was not looking, I ran and hid in the men’s room.\u00a0 She sent Lars to find me, then, as punishment, she put\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 me on the rowing machine – which I sank.<\/p>\n
\nI hate that bitch Cindy more than any human being has ever hated any other human being in the history of the world.\u00a0 Stupid, skinny, anaemic little cheerleader. If there was a part of my body I could move without unbearable pain, I would beat her with it. Cindy wanted me to work on my triceps.\u00a0 I don’t have any triceps! And if you don’t want dents in the
\nfloor,\u00a0 don’t hand me the barbells or anything that weighs more than a sandwich (which
\nI am sure you learned in the sadist school you attended and graduated magna cum laude from). The treadmill flung me off and I landed on a health and nutrition teacher. Why couldn’t it have been someone softer, like the drama coach or the choir director?<\/p>\n
\nCindy left a message on my answering machine in her grating, shrilly voice wondering why I did not show up today. Just hearing her made me want to smash the machine with my planner. However, I lacked the strength to even use the TV remote and ended up catching eleven straight hours of the Weather Channel.<\/p>\n
\nI’m having the Church van pick me up for services today so I can go and thank GOD that this week is over. \nAs Ben Franklin said: In wine there is wisdom, in beer there is freedom, in water there is bacteria.
\nIn a number of carefully controlled trials, scientists have demonstrated that if we drink 1 liter of water each day, at the end of the year we would have absorbed more than 1 kilo of Escherichia coli, (E. coli) – bacteria found in feces. In other words, we are consuming 1 kilo of poop.
\nHowever, we do NOT run that risk when drinking wine & beer (or tequila, rum, whiskey or other liquor) because alcohol has to go through a purification process of boiling, filtering and\/or fermenting.
