Well the Heather Ball and the Concert have come and gone and what great events they were.\u00a0 Of course the music was fabulous.\u00a0 The combination of Muriel on keyboard; Ian’ accordion (sometimes fiddle) and Judi on fiddle was just fantastic.\u00a0 You would think they must play together often, but no, they only play together occasionally.\u00a0 We were well schooled in the dance programme for the Ball by our teachers in the various classes so we had no worries on that score and if we did they were removed by the excellent briefing by Ruth.\u00a0 The reception beforehand was nice and we got to meet those from out-of-town and some old friends too; the meal was very enjoyable with a good selection and the atmosphere was warm and friendly – just like it usually is in Vancouver – though the room could have been a tad warmer – many ladies were complaining.<\/p>\n

The concert on Sunday had a perfect setting though it would have been nice to see more of Muriel’s finger dancing over the keys.\u00a0 The lack of a good microphone is something that should be discussed for another year but the music was great and the selections just right.\u00a0 What talent and what a privilege to be able to dance to and listen to them.<\/p>\n

Congratulations to Gail and her committee on another very successful Heather Ball.\u00a0 The hard work and planning all paid off – well done!<\/p>\n

I do hope you are all planning\u00a0to attend the next Ceilidh Dance which is the last Friday in\u00a0March the date is Friday, March 30 (Easter Friday – it is a holiday!) at the Scottish Cultural Centre, 8886 Hudson Street, Vancouver. That is just next week and we REALLY need you.\u00a0\u00a0All those who attended\u00a0the Shot of Scotch and Celtfest ceilidh’s will know how much\u00a0fun the dancing is so I hope you come along on March 30. \u00a0I am sure we will get a big crowd, tell your friends to come too.\u00a0 We need a big attendance to make up for February!\u00a0 I have asked for no snow!<\/p>\n

There is a “class” at 7 pm where we go over a few of the dances.\u00a0 The class is free as you don’t pay until the dance starts at 8.\u00a0 For those new to ceilidh dancing the class\u00a0is a great introduction and you will soon find out you are not the only one who does not know their left from right or back from front!!\u00a0 We teach everything and the dance follows the same format.\u00a0 Everything is very relaxed so you don’t have to worry about anything.\u00a0 If you can walk; you can dance, if you claim you have two left feet, no problem, we’ll show you how to use the right one!<\/p>\n

Groups of 8 or more qualify for a $1 discount so long as you warn me in advance. The “leader” chooses a password that the group knows. You tell me the password\u00a0 ceilidh@rscdsvancouver.org<\/a>; I inform those that are collecting the admission and everyone in the group gets admitted for $1 less than the normal rate. For the dance on March 30 you have until Wednesday (28th) to contact me with the password and the number in your group.<\/p>\n

It is a great way to celebrate the season – and cheap too! Arrange to meet all your friends at the Ceilidh dance rather than have them come to your place. Entertainment, food and drink all on tap!<\/p>\n

If you are a bit wary come along to the Ceilidh dance on Friday, March 30 at 7 p.m. in the Scottish Cultural Centre, 8886 Hudson Street, Vancouver. The class, which is free, will give you an idea of what we do as we teach all the dances the same way at the class and at the dance. I am sure you’ll want to stay and enjoy the dance which follows at 8 p.m..<\/p>\n

What is a Ceilidh dance? It is informal, easy Scottish Country dancing in a relaxed style for all ages. We teach everything, no experience or partner required just a desire to have fun an ability to move to the wonderful beat of the lively music and to enjoy the company of other like-minded folk.<\/p>\n

No more Ball tickets or local concerts to promote though there is always workshops, balls, etc. going on somewhere in the Scottish Country dance world.\u00a0 Here in the Vancouver area we have a number of club sponsored dances coming up details of which are in the calendar or you can find out more at the Branch website www.rscdsvancouver.org<\/p>\n

The next Ceilidh dance is on Easter Friday, March 30, 2018 at the Scottish Cultural Centre, 8886 Hudson Street, Vancouver with the usual class at 7 pm and the dance following from 8 – 11 pm. Pay at the door – $12 ($10 for students). Tell your friends etc. about the dances, they are lots of fun.<\/p>\n
