The Ceilidh dances resume in September with a surprise guest musician from Scotland so you don’t want to miss this one.\u00a0 It is on September 28 so mark your calendars NOW!\u00a0 If you have a group of 8 or more everyone in your group qualifies for $1 discount off the amazingly low admission price of $15 ($10 for students).<\/p>\n

You have to let everyone in your group know the password you have chosen which you then relay to me (ceilidh@rscdsvancouver.org<\/a>) before midnight on\u00a0Wednesday, September 26.\u00a0 So get busy, put a group together be it student friends or a faculty celebration, or an office get together, or a bunch of friends, or a birthday\/anniversary\/start of a new semester\u00a0celebration, or whatever, we ‘d love to have you.<\/p>\n

There are refreshments\/drinks (including beer, cider, juice, etc.)\u00a0available\u00a0for a donation\u00a0\u00a0 So apart from the fun and great exercise of Scottish Ceilidh dancing there is all the ingredients for a great\u00a0evening.<\/p>\n

No need to be scared if you don’t know how – we will teach you and you won’t be the only newbie.\u00a0 Two left feet? we will show you how to use the right one – it doesn’t matter, no ones watching anyway!\u00a0 You will be a star before the night is out.\u00a0 Make it a date – it will be a night you won’t forget.<\/p>\n

There is a “class” at 7 pm where we go over a few of the dances.\u00a0 The class is free as you don’t pay until the dance starts at 8!\u00a0 For those new to ceilidh dancing the class\u00a0is a great introduction and you will soon find out you are not the only one who does not know their left from right or back from front!!\u00a0 We teach everything and the dance follows the same format.\u00a0 Everything is very relaxed so you don’t have to worry about anything.\u00a0 If you can walk; you can dance.\u00a0 Wear flat<\/strong> comfy shoes and loose, layered clothing as it is warm work reeling and spinning.<\/p>\n

What is a Ceilidh dance? It is informal, easy Scottish Country dancing in a relaxed style for all ages. We teach everything, no experience or partner required just a desire to have fun an ability to move to the wonderful beat of the lively music and to enjoy the company of other like-minded folk.<\/p>\n

There is no Ceilidh dancing over the summer but there is still dancing events you can attend.\u00a0 There are the BC Highland Games and Scottish Festival on June 16 at Percy Perry Stadium in Coquitlam (it is within walking distance of the Skytrain station at Lafarge Lake.)\u00a0 There will be some Ceilidh dancing there along with a multitude of events.\u00a0 Check out the website at www.bchighlandgames.com<\/a><\/p>\n

Then there is Dancing in the Park – DITP – which is held every Monday evening from 7 – 9 pm at Ceperley Playground (near the fire engine & 2nd Beach) in Stanley Park starting June 18 until August 13 – no dancing if wet at 5.00 p.m. (if in doubt call 604-922-6842 or 604-224-6751.<\/p>\n

Beginner\/Tourist friendly dances are included in each nights programme along with favourites for more experienced dancers.\u00a0 DITP has been held every summer for over 60 years.\u00a0 This is friendly, social dancing that we enjoy sharing with everyone – watch & listen, or get up and try it out.\u00a0 No fancy footwork required – if you like the music, we’ll help you dance.\u00a0 Bring your families and visitors – the more the merrier.\u00a0 Remember that, unfortunately, there is Pay Parking throughout Stanley Park, otherwise DITP is FREE!<\/p>\n

On the first night of DITP, Monday, June 18, there is a special treat as we have live music.\u00a0 The Vancouver Fiddle Orchestra will play for the dances.\u00a0 The evening is hosted by the Burnaby club and with the Fiddle Orchestra it is sure to be an enjoyable evening.<\/p>\n

The second Monday is hosted by the Vancouver Branch and is the “official opening night” and the programme includes performances by the Vancouver Police Pipe Band and the Branch Demonstration team.<\/p>\n

The next Ceilidh dance is on\u00a0Friday, September 28, 2018 at the Scottish Cultural Centre, 8886 Hudson Street, Vancouver with the usual class at 7 pm and the dance following from 8 – 11 pm. Pay at the door – $15 ($10 for students). Tell your friends etc. about the dances, they are lots of fun.<\/p>\n
