Well we survived looking after the grandchildren but only just!\u00a0 It was fun but lots of work.\u00a0 On the day of the hand back we met a cousin’s daughter who now resides in Australia.\u00a0 We hadn’t seen her in about 35 years.\u00a0 She was here to attend the “sleep” conference.\u00a0 We met in the Vancouver Aquatic Centre where the kids had swim training.\u00a0 We took the water taxi to Granville Island where we met up with our son and his son (25) who had been at the Whitecaps game.\u00a0 They were on their bikes & Ian cycled home to change and join us for dinner at Ferguson Point in Stanley Park.\u00a0 After a lovely meal our son took our guest back to her AirB&B in Gastown.\u00a0 Rain was just starting to fall.\u00a0 Our car would not start!\u00a0 We called BCAA who had to go halfway round the park to reach us.\u00a0 The technician could not start the car so he arranged for a tow.\u00a0 The tow truck (Drake’s) towed the car and drove us all the was to King George Boulevard where he left us and the car at the dealership.\u00a0 Fortunately we were able to flag a taxi down as the phone line was busy, busy, busy.\u00a0 It was well after 12 before we got home.\u00a0 We slept in the next morning!!<\/p>\n

Puffins can fly<\/p>\n

We had a great start to the Ceilidh dance season on September 27.\u00a0 It was the same night as the AGM of the Vancouver Branch which was over very quickly and many members came to join in the fun.\u00a0 Alison taught many dances and Calanais were up to the challenge of some new dances as well as 2 for the experienced dancers.\u00a0 There were quite a few new faces in the Ceilidh dancers and we hope they enjoyed themselves and will come back again.<\/p>\n

The hall has been booked for another season of Ceilidh Dances.\u00a0 The dates are:
\nOctober 25; November 29; January 10; February 28; March 27 & April 24 that is the last Friday of the month except for December and January.<\/p>\n

You can help by coming along, by bringing friends (and enemies!) by telling people about the Ceilidh Dances, by bringing a group of 8 or more so that you all qualify for a discount of $1 each.\u00a0 No partner or experience required and remember if you claim to have two left feet we’ll show you how to use the right one!<\/p>\n

The back road to Loch Ness<\/p>\n

The next Ceilidh Dance is not until the last Friday of October (25th).\u00a0 The dances will follow the usual format with the “class” from 7 – 8 pm and the dance, with Calanais providing the music, from 8 – 11 pm.\u00a0\u00a0Mark your calendars NOW!\u00a0 \u00a0Even if you can’t make it in time for the class; come to the dance, it is lots of fun.<\/p>\n

If you have a group of 8 or more, then everyone in your group qualifies for $1 discount off the amazingly low admission price of $15 ($10 for students).\u00a0 You have to let everyone in your group know the password you have chosen which you then relay to me (ceilidh@rscdsvancouver.org) before midnight on the Wednesday preceding the class that way you do not all have to arrive together.<\/p>\n

There are refreshments\/drinks (including beer, cider, juice, etc.) available for a donation\u00a0\u00a0 So apart from the fun, exercise and great music of Scottish Ceilidh dancing there is all the ingredients for a great evening.<\/p>\n

No need to be scared if you don’t know how – we will teach you and you won’t be the only newbie.\u00a0 You will be a star before the night is out.\u00a0 Make it a date – it will be a night you won’t forget.<\/p>\n

Balloch, Loch Lomond<\/p>\n

For those new to ceilidh dancing the class is a great introduction to Scottish Country dancing and you will soon find out you are not the only one who does not know their left from right or back from front!!\u00a0 We teach everything and the dance follows the same format.\u00a0 Everything is very relaxed so you don’t have to worry about anything.\u00a0 If you can walk; you can dance.\u00a0 Wear flat<\/strong> comfy shoes and loose, layered clothing as it is warm work reeling and spinning.<\/p>\n

What is a Ceilidh dance? It is informal, easy Scottish Country dancing in a relaxed style for all ages. We teach everything, no experience or partner required just a desire to have fun an ability to move to the wonderful beat of the lively music and to enjoy the company of other like-minded folk.<\/p>\n

The next Ceilidh dance is on Friday, October 25, 2019 at the Scottish Cultural Centre, 8886 Hudson Street, Vancouver with the usual class at 7 pm and the dance following from 8 – 11 pm. Pay at the door – $15 ($10 for students). Tell your friends etc. about the dances, they are lots of fun.<\/p>\n
