NOTICE RE CEILIDH DANCES:-<\/strong>
\nDue to the Covid19 pandemic, unfortunately, all Ceilidh Dances for the balance of the year have been cancelled.\u00a0 That means the dances scheduled for September 18, October 30 and November 27 will not be held unless ……..\u00a0 Ceilidh dancing is a contact sport and under current guidelines might be allowed in groups that number less than 50 but these 50 would have to be the same people each dance.\u00a0 There is no way we could guarantee that.\u00a0 Keep reading the newsletter for updates – we will be reviewing the situation every week and if things change for the better and we can safely hold the dances then we will advise you all.\u00a0 In the meantime be kind, calm and safe.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Hope you have had a good summer and stayed calm, safe and well.\u00a0 It has been a most unusual summer but we are not complaining.\u00a0 We have had family staying with us, other members visiting us from time to time and friends dropping by for a cup of tea or even lunch.\u00a0 We try our best to maintain social distance and generally, when it is not our immediate family, tend to meet outside.
\nWe have another family joining us again – an Anna hummingbird has a nest in the garden and they have raised two families of 2 chicks – well I say they but she does all the work – what’s new!\u00a0 We have two feeders which have to be refilled regularly.\u00a0 They are very territorial and chase away other hummingbirds that try to feed – I think even their own family.
\nYesterday, aroung 6 p.m., we had a visit from a Barred Owl.\u00a0 We were out on the deck watching two squirrels fighting over nuts on the dogwood tree when we suddenly noticed the owl sitting on a low branch.\u00a0 We did not see him(?) arrive he stayed for nearly 2 hours but we did not see him catch his dinner.\u00a0 Apart from squirrels there are rabbits and other rodents around.\u00a0 I don’t think there are as many squirrels as we used to have maybe because of the owl.\u00a0 He visited our\u00a0garden before maybe 2 months ago but much earlier in the day and he was higher up in a cedar and attracted crows who were not happy that he was there.\u00a0 This time it was smaller birds, including a hummingbird that showed their displeasure but that did not faze the owl.<\/p>\n

Apart from these interludes I have taken my daily 15 minutes walk down Sandy Trail and back up again.\u00a0 It is a fairly steep incline so it certainly gets mt heart rate up.\u00a0 I started a few weeks before I had a stress test in early July.\u00a0 This is carried out on a tread mill where the operator increases the incline and speed every minute and they said I did better that in prior years so the training must have been the reason.\u00a0 I have kept it up nearly every day since.\u00a0 I don’t know how it will be in the rain and cold – we’ll see.<\/p>\n

I have also worked in the garden though no one would notice what I have done but it keeps me busy and I feel the garden looks better!\u00a0 I don’t know where the time has gone as it is\u00a0 September already.\u00a0 The sun is dropping lower and we get less sun in our yard every day.\u00a0 Soon the leaves will be turning and dropping and the weather will get wetter and colder.\u00a0 We have had a reasonably dry summer but it has never been too warm.<\/p>\n

Sitting by the window of her convent, Sister Barbara opened a letter from home one evening.\u00a0\u00a0Inside the letter was a $100 bill her parents had sent. Sister Barbara smiled at the gesture.<\/p>\n

As she read the letter by the window, she noticed a shabbily dressed stranger leaning against the lamp post below.\u00a0 \u00a0Quickly, she wrote, “Don’t despair. – Sister Barbara,” on a piece of paper, wrapped the $100 bill in it, got the man’s attention and tossed it out the window to him.<\/p>\n

The stranger picked it up, and with a puzzled expression and a tip of his hat, went off down the street.<\/p>\n

The next day, Sister Barbara was told that a man was at her door, insisting on seeing her. She went down, and found the stranger waiting.\u00a0 \u00a0Without a word, he handed her a huge wad of $100 bills.<\/p>\n

“What’s this?” she asked.<\/p>\n

“That’s the $8,000 you have coming Sister,” he replied.<\/p>\n

A new and easy test for Covid-19 is doing the rounds and it’s simple, quick and positive (or negative if you see what I mean).<\/p>\n

Take a glass and pour a decent dram of your favourite red wine, whisky, gin or rum into it;<\/p>\n

Check to see if you can smell it; if you can, then you are halfway there.<\/p>\n

Then drink it.\u00a0 If you can taste it– it is reasonable to assume you are currently free of the virus.<\/p>\n

I tested myself 9 times last night and was virus free every time, thank goodness.<\/p>\n

I will have to test myself again today though, as I woke up with a headache this morning which may also be a symptom.<\/p>\n

I talked to a to a homeless man recently and asked him how he ended up this way.<\/p>\n

He said, “Up until last week, I still had it all.\u00a0 I had plenty to eat, my clothes were washed and pressed, I had a roof over my head, I had HDTV and Internet, and I went to the gym, the pool, and the library.<\/p>\n

“I was working on my MBA on-line.\u00a0 I had no bills and no debt.\u00a0 I even had full medical coverage.”<\/p>\n

I felt sorry for him, so I asked, “What happened?\u00a0 Drugs?\u00a0 Alcohol?\u00a0 Divorce?”<\/p>\n

“Oh no, nothing like that,” he said.\u00a0 “No, no… I was paroled.”<\/p>\n
