NOTICE RE CEILIDH DANCES:-<\/strong>.<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

It has been a long time coming but I am excited to announce that we are planning on starting the Ceilidh Dances with the first one scheduled for Friday, September 24, 2021.\u00a0 This will still be subject to Provincial guidelines etc. but all is looking positive.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The dances will<\/strong> continue to be held at the Scottish Cultural Centre, 8886 Hudson Street, Vancouver with a class from 7;00 – 7:45 and the dance from 8:00 – 10;30 with live music by Calanais.\u00a0 Alison will continue to be your teacher\/caller so you are guaranteed to have a great evening.\u00a0 No change to the admission – still $15 with students $10.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The 2021\/22 season dances are scheduled as follows:-

\nNovember 26
\nJanuary 28
\nFebruary 25
\nMarch 25
\nApril 29
\nMark your calendars now!<\/b><\/p>\n

There will be some <\/b>protocols<\/b><\/span> that we will need to follow but, we have lots of time to get to that.\u00a0 Let us just celebrate that we are getting back together for dancing and fun again.<\/b><\/p>\n

ScotFestBC \u2013 The British Columbia Highland Games is back on Sept 3-4, 2021<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Join us for all the fun of a great west coast highland games, with the SFU Pipe Band, caber tossing, lots of piping, dancing, singing, a whisky school, live Celtic music and a free evening Friday, Sept. 3 (5k Tartan Run, Celtic music, piping on main stage)\"\"<\/p>\n

Purchase your tickets in advance and then come to Lafarge Lake Park on Saturday for the fun. Take the train to the Games. There’s a free bike valet. There’ll be activities for kids, food vendors (include veggie options), Scottish and other national foods, check out the British cars, listen to the performances on two stages, or watch the heavy athletes throw big objects all over the Lew Ross Field. Hang on to your seats for the massed pipe bands flowing down onto the fields around 5:30, and the pipers ceilidh in the big tent afterwards.<\/p>\n

There are activities for the bairns, \u00e8ildears and everyone in between.<\/p>\n

So come for the pipes and stay for the haggis & bru. And maybe a pint or two with new and old friends.<\/p>\n

On a sad note:<\/p>\n

I’m sorry to advise those of you in our extended Scottish Cultural Centre family that Brett McMillan passed away in his sleep this morning.<\/p>\n

His family is holding a Celebration of Life for Brett here at SCC in the main ballroom on August 14th at 3:00pm, and is asking all who would like to share a memory of Brett to write it down and send it to me or bring it with you on the day. A microphone will be set-up for those of you who would like to say a word or two.<\/p>\n

For those of you who did not really know him, Brett was a caretaker\/sound man\/raconteur and general helper and the Scottish Centre for many years.\u00a0 He succumbed to cancer and has been off work for 2\/3 years.\u00a0 An Australian he was always willing to tel a story, was a great help to many and was always very cheerful with a big smile.\u00a0 He will be missed.<\/p>\n

Because they had no reservations at a busy restaurant, my elderly neighbor and his wife were told there would be a 45-minute wait for a table.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\nThe reason Politicians try so hard to get re-elected is that they would “hate” to have to make a living under the laws they’ve passed.<\/strong><\/p>\n

We really need some rain.\u00a0 It is very nice but there are all these forest fires, people losing their homes, etc.\u00a0 Spare a thought for all those affected.<\/span><\/p>\n

A recent study has found women who carry a little extra weight live longer than men who mention it.<\/p>\n

Kids today don’t know how easy they have it. When I was young, I had to walk 9 feet through shag carpet to change the TV channel.<\/p>\n
