The next Ceilidh dance is next Friday February 23. It is the second one of the year so you will all want to come and enjoy a great evening of dancing, fun and social interaction after all the fun that was had at the January dance where we had 154 noisy revelers dancing to the great music provided by our own Calanais.<\/p>\n

The dances are held in the Scottish Cultural Centre, 8886 Hudson Street, Vancouver which is a block north of SW Marine between Granville & Oak in Marpole.\u00a0 The evening starts with a free class from 7 – 7:45 and the dance with the live music of Calanais follows from 8 – 10:30.\u00a0 Admission is $15 (students $10) and there are refreshments available but remember it is CASH ONLY<\/strong>.\u00a0 Remember to bring some extra cash so you can donate towards the cost of the beer\/cider\/soft drinks\/cookies etc.<\/p>\n

This latter sentence was something that many forgot about in January.\u00a0 Usually the cost of the food and drinks is covered by donations but in all the fun and excitement of a busy dance many must have forgotten to make a donation or maybe you did not have cash?\u00a0 Please remember to bring some extra cash.\u00a0 We try to provide a variety of drinks pop, coolers, non alcoholic beer, juice, cider and beer along with crips, cookies and other goodies.<\/p>\n

Most Scottish Country dance classes will be starting up again – why not give one a try, you never know you might enjoy it.\u00a0 You’ll be made welcome wherever you go and it is good exercise too!<\/p>\n

My electric car would not start today so I had to call Emergency Roadside Assistance.\u00a0 They arrived about an hour later but too late to give Margaret a ride to her bridge game.\u00a0 She had to call a lady we were supposed to be picking up to pick her up instead.\u00a0 The fault was in the 12 volt battery which apparently had run low.\u00a0 I had to take it in to the dealership in Richmond and they have kept the car overnight as they were too busy and they also did not have a spare car so I had to call my son for a ride home.\u00a0 That means we are carless and will not be able to get to class tonight.<\/em><\/p>\n

Between the rain showers I managed to rake the lawn(?) of leaves, twigs and other cedar droppings\u00a0 Now I am stiff and have a blister on my hand!\u00a0 The joys of having a garden<\/em>.<\/p>\n

A grand evening was held last Saturday night to celebrate the birth of Robert Burns, Scotland’s poet of the common folk.\u00a0 The hall was filled with 182 people for the annual Burns Supper which began with the Toast to the Haggis and followed by an amazing dinner of haggis, roast beef, bashed neeps and tatties along with many other choices.<\/span><\/p>\n

Then came the speeches – The Immortal Memory, the Toast to the Lasses and Reply.\u00a0 The hall was cleared of tables etc. and there was a demonstration of both Scottish Country & Highland dancing and the rest of the programme was taken up with everyone enjoying some easy Scottish country dances.\u00a0 All in all a very enjoyable evening.\u00a0 Tickets for the 2005 Burns Supper will go on sale on November 11, 2004 – get yours early!!<\/p>\n
