Entrance to “The Heilandman’s Umbrella” in Glasgow<\/p>\n

\u00a0What a wonderful summer weatherwise here on the south west coast of Canada<\/span> it has been so far.\u00a0 No need to cancel any of the Monday nights of dancing in the park where there have been great attendances.\u00a0 They ended on July 20 as the Parks Board did not permit us to hold them longer!!\u00a0 We ended with a bank on a Ceilidh night with Blackthorn playing and nearly 100 dancing as well as a large number of spectators.\u00a0 Many thanks to Alison who spends a great deal of time organising the DITP.<\/span>\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n

We are very fortunate to have avoided forest fires, floods, excessive heat, etc. and wish all well in other parts of the country and world who are suffering through these disasters.<\/span><\/p>\n

We have enjoyed family visiting from near and far and more to come!\u00a0 We will have all but one – he is off to Belgium with the Canadian Senior field hockey team – of our children here for a day or so and some, but not all of the grandkids.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The next Ceilidh Dance will be held on Friday, September 25 <\/b>in the Scottish Cultural Centre, 8886 Hudson Street, Vancouver<\/span>.\u00a0 We start the evening with a free class from 7 – 7;45 pm followed by the dance from 8 – 10:30 ish\u00a0 Come and join us for a great evening of dancing, fun and social interaction.\u00a0 As these dances continue to grow in popularity you may need to come early to ensure your place.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

80 Tickets will go on sale online on Monday, Sepember 21 – watch for a newsletter giving the link etc. – and another 80 will be sold on the night at the door – cash or credit.\u00a0 The price is the same bargain $20 ($15 for students)<\/span><\/p>\n

The dances are held in the Scottish Cultural Centre, 8886 Hudson Street, Vancouver which is a block north of\u00a0 SW Marine between Granville & Oak in Marpole.\u00a0 The evening starts with a free class from 7 – 7:45 and the dance with the live music of Calanais follows from 8 – 10:30.\u00a0 Admission is $20 (students $15) and there are refreshments available but remember CASH is preferred<\/strong>.\u00a0 Remember to bring some extra cash so you can donate towards the cost of the beer\/cider\/soft drinks\/cookies etc.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

If you are interested in moving to the next level up from Ceilidh dancing you should try Scottish Country dancing which is more refined than Ceilidh dancing but still lots of fun.\u00a0 Weekly classes will start up again in September so plan to come along give it a try, you will be made very welcome.\u00a0 \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The BC Highland Games were held in June and for the first year in a long time it was a nice sunny dry day.\u00a0 It seemed there was a good crowd but I have not heard if it was financially successful.<\/p>\n

“Sir, Valerie is one of our most expensive ladies. Perhaps you would prefer someone else”, said the madam.<\/p>\n

Just then, Valerie appeared and announced to the man she charged \u00a35000 a visit.\u00a0<\/strong>Without hesitation, the man pulled out five thousand pounds and gave it to Valerie, and they went upstairs. After an hour, the man calmly left.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The next night, the man appeared again, once more demanding to see Valerie.<\/p>\n

Valerie explained that no one had ever come back two nights in a row, as she was so expensive. There were no discounts. The price was still \u00a35000.<\/p>\n

Again, the man pulled out the money, gave it to Valerie, and they went upstairs. After an hour, he left.<\/p>\n

The following night the man was there yet again.\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong>Everyone was astounded that he had come for a third consecutive night, but he paid Valerie and they went upstairs.<\/strong><\/p>\n

After their session, Valerie said to the man, “No one has ever been with me three nights in a row. Where are you from?”<\/p>\n

The man replied, ” Edinburgh ..”<\/p>\n

“Really”, she said. “I have family in Edinburgh ..”<\/p>\n

“I know.” the man said. “Your sister died, and I’m her solicitor. I was instructed to deliver your \u00a315,000 inheritance in person\u00a0<\/strong>.<\/strong>……………<\/strong>“<\/strong><\/p>\n

The moral of the story is that three things in life are certain<\/strong>\u00a0 ……………….<\/strong><\/p>\n

Ceilidh dances are held in the Scottish Cultural Centre, 8886 Hudson Street, Vancouver.\u00a0 There is a free class at 7 pm then the dance follows from 8 – 10:30 pm with live music by Calanais.\u00a0 All easy dances that are taught and called and everyone has lots of fun and great exercise.\u00a0 Tell your friends and make it an outing – it only costs $20 ($15 for students) and there are refreshments (including cider & beer) for a donation<\/strong>.                             He called the royal weather forecaster and inquired as to the weather forecast for the next few hours. The weatherman assured him that there was no chance of rain in the coming days.\u00a0 \u00a0So the king went fishing with his wife, the queen.<\/p>\n

                            On the way he met a farmer on his donkey.\u00a0 Upon seeing the king the farmer said, “Your Majesty, you should return to the palace at once because in just a short time I expect a huge amount of rain to fall in this area”.<\/p>\n

                            The king was polite and considerate, he replied: “I hold the palace meteorologist in high regard. He is an extensively educated and experienced professional. And besides, I pay him very high wages. He gave me a very different forecast. I trust him and I will continue on my way.”<\/p>\n

                            So he continued on his way.<\/p>\n

                            However, a short time later a torrential rain fell from the sky.<\/p>\n

                            The King and Queen were totally soaked and their entourage chuckled upon seeing them in such a shameful condition.\u00a0 \u00a0Furious, the king returned to the palace and gave the order to fire the professional. Then he summoned the farmer and offered him the prestigious and high paying role of royal forecaster.<\/p>\n

                            The farmer said, “Your Majesty, I do not know anything about forecasting. I obtain my information from my donkey.\u00a0 If I see my donkey’s ears drooping, it means with certainty that it will rain.”<\/p>\n

                            So the king hired the donkey.<\/p>\n

                            And thus began the practice of hiring dumb asses to work in the government and occupy its highest and most influential positions.<\/p>\n

                            And the practice is unbroken to this date…<\/p>\n

                            Help us spread the word – I am not into social media but I am sure somebody can promote the Ceilidh Dance(s) there for me especially out at the Colleges and Universities.\u00a0 Tell all your friends to come along – it really is a fun (and cheap!) evening.\u00a0 DON’T FORGET CASH IS PREFERRED.\u00a0 <\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

                            4 Jewish ladies meet after 30 years at their High School Reunion. One goes to take food while the other 3 start to talk about how successful their sons became.<\/p>\n

                            No. 1 says her son studied economics, became a banker and is so rich, he gave his best friend a Ferrari.<\/p>\n

                            No. 2 said her son became a pilot, started his own airline became so rich, he gave his best friend a jet.<\/p>\n

                            No. 3 said her son became an engineer, started his own development company became so rich, he built his best friend a castle.<\/p>\n

                            No 4. came back with a plate full of food and asked what the buzz is about. They told her they were talking about how successful their sons became and asked her about her son. She said her son is gay and he works in a Gay Bar.<\/p>\n

                            The other three said she must be very disappointed with her son for not becoming successful. “Oh no!!” said the Lady, he is doing good. “Last week on his birthday he got a Ferrari, a jet, and a castle from three of his boyfriends…” .<\/p>\n
