In order to circumvent this problemI am sending an abbreviated newsletter this week – there will be no pictures and maybe only one joke – sorry. Master computer whiz, Paul, is working on a solution and he (note I did not say we) hopes to have some work around by next week, I will let you know as it may involve you having to make an extra click or two!!

I am saddened to say goodbye to another very nice old lady. Helen Anderson passed away last week. She was a big part of the Vancouver Scottish Country Dance scene – maybe not quite so much in recent years after she moved down to Bellingham with her daughter Mary Anderson who is a well known SCD teacher. Helen was into her 90’s. Condolences to:
Mary Anderson, 2938 Seaview Circle, Bellingham, WA 98225.

If you are able please support Stave Falls Dancers Scottish Night on February 25. Yesterday over 72 dancers had the pleasure of being taught by Mary Murray and Simon Scott. Both classes worked hard and I m sure everyone left having learnt quite a lot. The live music at the classes added so much both for the teachers and for the students. A huge crew of volunteers made sure everything went smoothly from check in to tea/coffee/juice & goodies before, at the break and after class.

The afternoon class attracted about 100 dancers and I found it very hard to stay off the floor as the music of the Tartan Players was so irrepressible. I actually tried to dance twice before changing back into my street shoes but even then I was tempted to get back up!! Congratulations to Fran & Jean and all their many assistants. I am still full after the enjoyable afternoon tea.

COMING EVENTS IN THE NEXT FEW WEEKS – see www.vancouverceilidh.org for a longer list and check out the updates to the Youth West Weekend and the White Rock Ceilidh and Dance.

2012

Feb 24

Ceilidh Dance in the Scottish Cultural Centre, 8886 Hudson Street, Vancouver. It happened again the next week!
The following Sunday, he watched as the offering was collected and saw an elderly woman put the distinctive pink envelope on the plate. This went on for weeks until the pastor, overcome by curiosity, approached her.
“Ma’am, I couldn’t help but notice that you put $1,000 a week in the collection plate,” he stated.
“Why yes,” she replied, “every week my son sends me money and I give some of it to the church.”
The pastor replied, “That’s wonderful. How much does he send you?”
The elderly woman answered, “$10,000 a week.”
The pastor was amazed. “Your son is very successful; what does he do for a living?”
“He is a veterinarian,” she answered.
“That’s an honourable profession, but I had no idea they made that much money,” the pastor said. “Where does he practice?”

The woman answered proudly, “In Nevada… He has two cat houses, one in Las Vegas and one in Reno.”

Time to close the letter and try and ensure it reaches you all.
