pity it is not quite so nice but my body could do with a rest although I really did not do that much out in the garden but I really am getting old as I get sore and stiff very easily (maybe it is just me trying to get out of some good honest work!)

The long weekend got off to a super start with a delicious dinner and enjoyable evening with friends so we got off to a later start than planned on Saturday morning. Off to the nursery to get more plants etc. then home to get them planted, potted, hung or whatever but first we had to move an old table and 4 chairs we had inherited when we bought the house. The table was very wobbly and in need of major repairs while the wood slats in one of the chairs had sprung loose so we took them up to the road and left them there hoping some handy man would see they had some potential. Later in the day two chairs were taken but the rest is sitting there so they might become firewood!!

That left a hole in our deck so off we trotted to Canada Tire, Home Sense, Pier 1, some other store, the Brick, Walmart and Home Depot. Of course none of the stores had exactly what we wanted. The chairs didn’t stack, it was only available in bright orange, they were too big, they were not comfy, etc. We came home to think about it and as Margaret got on with planting our earlier purchases I started to power wash the back deck which I managed to get finished just before darkness but of course was soaked through so had to shower and change before we ate.

Continued later …..

This week I have another series of “Loch” not easy without damaging the adjoining boards. I also had to replace a cracked spar on one of the Adirondack chairs. Margaret had been busy checking out the internet and we decided, despite the colour, that the best patio set was one, which, I had thought, the chairs did stack although the internet said they didn’t. Off to check on that and maybe purchase it and to the lumber store to get wood for the deck and chair.

The chairs did stack so a purchase was made but they did not have the matching umbrella. The lumber store was helpful in advice but apparently things have changed since our deck was built and they no longer stock the size we need and very few places do. I did get the piece for the chair which they cut to size for me.

Back home to see if the umbrella was available elsewhere. Online was out of stock but there was one in North Surrey. I phoned to ask them to hold it and we rushed up there but that took some time of course. Now we had to try to decipher the assembly instructions for the table and chairs. The table was not bad but my first attempt at a chair ended up being back to front. They, the chairs, are a two person job. We got two done before frustration, exhaustion, hunger took over so I have two more to do sometime.

The next regular Ceilidh Dance is not until Friday, September 26, 2014 – SCD is, naturally, rooted in Scotland but there are groups in almost every country so you can learn here and then dance with other groups when you vacation or travel. SCD is not to be confused with Highland Dancing which is more solo dancing. SCD is usually done with a partner in groups or sets however you do not need to come with a partner. It is more akin to Square Dancing.

It takes a year or two of classes, workshops, etc. to learn the basics then you can hone your skills in advanced classes. You start by learning the steps and formations. Dances (of which there are over 13,000) are made up of these formations so a good grounding will give you the ability to learn a new dance fairly quickly.
