<\/a>With many thanks to Paul & Janice here is a picture of our adopted Pipe Band being the Vancouver Police Pipe Band leaving Buckingham Palace.\u00a0\u00a0 They were the first non military band to play for the Changing of the Guard.\u00a0\u00a0 Sandy, who also dances on the Demonstration Team is the lead piper on the right.\u00a0\u00a0 The Vancouver Police Pipe Band will be playing at the Gala Night at the Park on Monday, July 14.<\/p>\nWe danced at the Canada Day celebrations in Port Coquitlam on a lovely but hot afternoon then I joined 35 or so others for the Canada Day parade in Vancouver in the evening.\u00a0 It was a great turnout but it could have been even better.\u00a0\u00a0 Here is a link for Shaw TV’s coverage of the parade.\u00a0\u00a0 The RSCDS are about 2\/3 of the way through and the commentator mentions Ceilidh Dancing:<\/p>\n

The Centre does not run itself but is actually run by the United Scottish Cultural Society (USCS<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>). Memberships in this Society are for individuals only and presently cost $10 annually. Membership Application Forms may be obtained either at the Centre or on the USCS<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span> website – www.scottishculturalcentre.com<\/a> .<\/p>\n Any person may join USCS<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span> and Scottish Ceilidh Dancers are encouraged to show their support by doing so. If any USCS<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span> member would like to be more involved, then, Darryl Carracher<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>, the Manager at the Centre, will be pleased to give you further information. At the present time we are in the middle of replacing the roof which is a major expense. It is expected it will take at least another week to complete this large project. We also plan to paint and spruce up the main hall but that will not take place until September.<\/p>\n Upgrades to the Centre are also being considered so it is particularly appropriate that dancers join USCS<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>. No final decisions on these upgrades will be made before Members of USCS<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span> are fully informed.<\/p>\n EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n Well where did the week go?\u00a0 Dancing in the Park with Deep Cove on Monday then of course Canada Day on Tuesday.\u00a0\u00a0 That meant I was at work on Wednesday while Thursday I accompanied my youngest as he rode down to the beach and the pool on his bike while I vainly tried to keep up.\u00a0\u00a0 He is pretty good though and waited for me at each stop sign!!\u00a0\u00a0 Watched their swim lessons then it was a quick shower and change plus a piano practise and a snack before tennis.\u00a0\u00a0 Back up the hill for lunch and back down again for swim training.\u00a0\u00a0 Then it is trampoline time while I collapse.\u00a0\u00a0 They have endless energy – I forgot that Taryn also has a synchro<\/span> class \u00a0first of all but I have not had to get her there yet.<\/p>\n Friday was pretty much a repeat while yesterday, as mentioned, I danced after doing a few chores.\u00a0 Today I was “volunteered” to be in charge while Granny and Mummy were off doing other things.\u00a0\u00a0 All this cuts into my time watching the recorded World Cup and Wimbledon which we record and try not to let anyone tell us the results.\u00a0\u00a0 Canada did very well at Wimbledon with one champion, one runner-up,\u00a0and two semi-finalists.<\/p>\n llllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/em> <\/em><\/p>\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++<\/p>\n The next Ceilidh Dance is not until Friday, September 26th, 2014 but you can dance every Monday evening, weather permitting, come down to Ceperley<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span> Park in Stanley Park near 2nd Beach.\u00a0 \u00a0THIS MONDAY, July 7 \u00a0from 7 – 9 p.m<\/span>. and the theme is “Scots Dance the world o’er.”\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 If it is wet at 5 p.m. the dancing will be cancelled but you can call 604-922-6842 or 604-224-6751 or try www.rscdsvancouver.org<\/a> or facebook.com\/RSCDSVancouver<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span> . <\/strong><\/p>\n Future Mondays in Stanley Park are:<\/span><\/p>\n July 14\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Gala Night with the Pipe Band and the Dem Team<\/span> Dancing in the Park is FREE!!!<\/span> and no partner or experience necessary – just bring your smiles and I would suggest flat, comfy shoes. Then, if you “Like” the Vancouver Ceilidh FB page (do as described above), you too will receive updates AND be able to share those updates and events on your personal Facebook page to your friends and ask that they “Like” and “Share”, etc.<\/p>\n Ceilidh Dances are great ways to celebrate birthdays, anniversaries etc. Invite all your friends to come and join you at the Ceilidh.
