I know some of you were involved with the Teacher training and EVERYONE Else has a wonderful excuse but I don&#8217;t believe half of them.\u00a0 You should all be very ashamed.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Those who did turn out had a good time marching and dancing\u00a0in DRY weather.\u00a0\u00a0 Thanks for all the effort you put into it.\u00a0\u00a0 It was a pity we were unable to dance afterwards as the sound system did not materialise.\u00a0\u00a0 Evidently, like many of you, they decided to stay home and not risk getting wet.\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #ff00ff;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.vancouverceilidh.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/Early-spring-Highlland-cattle-Near-Oban.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter  wp-image-6566\" src=\"https:\/\/www.vancouverceilidh.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/Early-spring-Highlland-cattle-Near-Oban.jpg\" alt=\"Early spring - Highlland cattle Near Oban\" width=\"513\" height=\"440\" \/><\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Highland cattle near Oban<\/p>\n<p><strong>A cowboy named Bud was overseeing his herd in a remote mountainous pasture in California when suddenly a brand-new BMW advanced out of a dust cloud towards him.<\/strong> <strong>The driver, a young man in a Armani suit, Gucci shoes, RayBan sunglasses and YSL tie, leans out the window and asks the cowboy, &#8216;If I tell you exactly how many cows and calves you have in your herd, Will you give me a calf?&#8217; \u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Bud looks at the man, obviously a yuppie, then looks at his peacefully grazing herd and calmly answers, &#8216;Sure, Why not?&#8217;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>The yuppie parks his car, whips out his Dell notebook computer,connects it to his Cingular RAZR V3 cell phone, and surfs to a NASA page on the Internet, where he calls up a GPS satellite to get an exact fix on his location which he then feeds to another NASA satellite that scans the area in an ultra-high-resolution photo.<\/strong> <strong> The young man then opens the digital photo in Adobe Photoshop and exports it to an image processing facility in Hamburg , Ger many . . <\/strong> <strong>Within seconds, he receives an email on his Palm Pilot that the image has been processed and the data stored. He then accesses a MS-SQL database through an ODBC connected Excel spreadsheet with email on his Blackberry and, after a few minutes, receives a response. \u00a0 Finally, he prints out a full-color, 150-page report on his hi-Tech Miniaturized HP LaserJet printer and finally turns to the cowboy and says, &#8216;You have exactly 1,586 cows and calves.&#8217;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong> &#8216;That&#8217;s right. Well, I guess you can take one of my calves,&#8217; says Bud.<\/strong> <strong>He watches the young man select one of the animals and looks on amused as the young man stuffs it into the trunk of his car. \u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Then Bud says to the young man, &#8216;Hey, if I can tell you exactly what your business is, will you give me back my calf?&#8217;<\/strong> <strong>The young m an thinks about it for a second and then says, &#8216;Okay, why not?&#8217; \u00a0 <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>&#8216;You&#8217;re a Congressman for the U.S. Government&#8217;, says Bud. \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong> <strong>&#8216;Wow! That&#8217;s correct,&#8217; says the yuppie, &#8216;but how did you guess that?&#8217; \u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0 &#8216;No guessing required.&#8217; answered the cowboy. &#8216;You showed up here even though nobody called you; you want to get paid for an answer I already knew, to a question I never asked. The Centre does not run itself but is actually run by the United Scottish Cultural Society (USCS). Memberships in this Society are for individuals only and presently cost $10 annually. Membership Application Forms may be obtained either at the Centre or on the USCS website &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.scottishculturalcentre.com\">www.scottishculturalcentre.com<\/a> .\u00a0\u00a0 The cost is only $10.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"background-color: #cc99ff;\">Any person may join USCS and Scottish Country &amp; Ceilidh Dancers are encouraged to show their support by doing so<\/span>. If any USCS member would like to be more involved, then, Darryl Carracher, the Manager at the Centre, will be pleased to give you further information. We have\u00a0replaced the roof which was a major expense and\u00a0we have also\u00a0finishing painting and sprucing up the main hall\u00a0and hope you all like what we have done. Upgrades to the Centre are also being considered so it is particularly appropriate that dancers join USCS. SCD is, naturally, rooted in Scotland but there are groups in almost every country so you can learn here and then dance with other groups when you vacation or travel. SCD is not to be confused with Highland Dancing which is more solo dancing. SCD is usually done with a partner in groups or sets however you do not need to come with a partner. It is more akin to Square Dancing.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.vancouverceilidh.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/St-Patricks-Day-fiddler.gif\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-6583\" src=\"https:\/\/www.vancouverceilidh.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/St-Patricks-Day-fiddler.gif\" alt=\"St Patrick's Day fiddler\" width=\"104\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>It takes a year or two of classes, workshops, etc. to learn the basics then you can hone your skills in advanced classes. You start by learning the steps and formations. Dances (of which there are over 13,000) are made up of these formations so a good grounding will give you the ability to learn a new dance fairly quickly. SCD has its HQ in Scotland and is known as the Royal Scottish Country Dance Society (RSCDS) and there is a Vancouver Branch of the RSCDS under which there are many clubs throughout the Province (there is also a Branch in Seattle).<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.vancouverceilidh.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/St-Patricks-Day-slogan.gif\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-6584\" src=\"https:\/\/www.vancouverceilidh.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/St-Patricks-Day-slogan.gif\" alt=\"St Patrick's Day slogan\" width=\"128\" height=\"115\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>There are a great many classes and the ones in the Vancouver area are listed below. Come along \u2013 check us out \u2013 the first night is usually free and thereafter it will average about $6 a night and that\u2019s for a 2 hour class! You will find many friendly people who will be eager to help you and welcome you to their club. You never know you actually might like it!!
