Anstruther\" width=\"976\" height=\"549\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Between Pittenweem &amp; Anstruther<\/p>\n<p>Another gorgeous week with loads of sunshine &#8211; a mite hot but we should never complain.\u00a0\u00a0 The ground is very dry as shown last night on our way home where the grass on the median had caught fire probably started by some careless cigarette tossed out a car window.\u00a0\u00a0 We passed the fire engine on its way and when I went back in later the fire was out but there was a very noticeable black scar .<\/p>\n<p>If this keeps up then we are in for some serious water restrictions.\u00a0\u00a0 There has already been a run on fans and air conditioners.\u00a0\u00a0 We find it so warm we sleep on top of the bed covers but our just arrived granddaughter from LA felt cold and had to find extra covers!!\u00a0\u00a0 She is here to coach swimming and visit with her friends.\u00a0\u00a0 We did see her for a late breakfast but that might be about it until she heads home in mid August &#8211; she has to leave early to practise field hockey for her school.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.vancouverceilidh.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/canada-day-animated.gif\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-7209\" src=\"https:\/\/www.vancouverceilidh.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/canada-day-animated.gif\" alt=\"canada day animated\" width=\"130\" height=\"98\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Another enjoyable night in Stanley Park and there was wonderful audience participation.\u00a0 So much so that Rebecca missed out some of the more complicated dances and we repeated the easier ones.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.vancouverceilidh.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/Canada-Day-beaver.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-7210\" src=\"https:\/\/www.vancouverceilidh.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/Canada-Day-beaver.jpg\" alt=\"Canada Day beaver\" width=\"500\" height=\"455\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Cathrine puts in many hours promoting SCD at various places and deserves a HUGE THANK YOU.\u00a0 Now you can really show your appreciation for what she does by coming along to join in the Canada Day parade THIS WEDNEDAY, July 1.\u00a0\u00a0 <strong><span style=\"background-color: #ff99cc;\"><em>Canada Day Parade \u2013 We are entry #45 in the parade on July 1st!\u00a0 We will gather about 6 pm at the northeast corner of Alberni and Broughton, just behind the entry from the consulate of Pakistan, and just in front of Academie Duello. (sword fighting team?) We can go over the dance steps between 6 and 7. The front of the parade starts at 7. Dunsmuir.\u00a0\u00a0 I walked down to the FIFA Fan Zone where I tried to watch the game on the 2 big screens but there were so may people making so much noise that I could hardly see the action nor hear the commentary.\u00a0 I walked up to the stadium and got there as they were going into the 5 minutes of added time so was able to meet Margaret with no problem.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">We walked back to the car only to find, for some unknown reason, the battery was dead.\u00a0\u00a0 I phoned BCAA and they would be 45 minutes to an hour.\u00a0\u00a0 We were right across from a White Spot so we decided to eat but there was a big queue and it took a long time to get seated.\u00a0\u00a0 We ordered and I felt sure BCAA and my dinner would arrive\u00a0at the same time but they didn&#8217;t.\u00a0\u00a0 I had to add some time to the meter but we paid our bill and as we were walking outside BCAA phoned to say they would be there shortly which they were and soon had the car running.\u00a0\u00a0 It seems fine but rather than going to a movie we opted to go home so the car would get a good run and then I returned to YVR to pick my grand daughter up.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Our Hong Kong family arrived on Tuesday and, as they do every summer, commandeered my car.\u00a0\u00a0 They are spending some time with the other grandparents but when my son arrives in a week or so they will all be here.\u00a0\u00a0 Later my daughter\u00a0and another grandson will come so it will be the usual, fun but busy summer with swimming, synchronized swimming, tennis, etc. at the Crescent Beach Swimming Club along with many of their other activities like foot races every Friday evening, Bullhead derbies, Bingo, dances, sandcastle competitions, etc. etc.\u00a0\u00a0 I shall get fitter walking up and down to the pool and then there is the swim meets, swim galas and the relay races including the three generation one to look forward to as well.\u00a0\u00a0 Every year I keep saying I must learn to swim properly so I give our family a chance but I am too lazy!!<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"background-color: #ccffff;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.vancouverceilidh.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/canada-day-fireworks.gif\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-7211\" src=\"https:\/\/www.vancouverceilidh.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/canada-day-fireworks.gif\" alt=\"canada day fireworks\" width=\"100\" height=\"100\" \/><\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p>========================================================<\/p>\n<p><em>\u00a0A DC airport ticket agent offers some examples of &#8216;why&#8217; I had a\u00a0New Hampshire\u00a0Congresswoman\u00a0ask for an aisle seat so that her hair wouldn&#8217;t get messed up by being near the window. (On an airplane!) <\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>2. I got a call from a candidate&#8217;s staffer, who wanted to go to Capetown. I started to explain the length of the flight and the passport information, and then she interrupted me with, &#8221;I&#8217;m not trying to make you look stupid, but Capetown is in\u00a0Massachusetts\u00a0..&#8221; \u00a0Without trying to make her look stupid, I calmly explained, &#8221;Cape Cod is in Massachusetts , Capetown is in Africa .&#8221; \u00a0\u00a0Her response &#8211; click. <\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>3. A senior Vermont Congressman called, furious about a Florida package we did. I asked what was wrong with the vacation in Orlando .. \u00a0He said he was expecting an ocean-view room. The Centre does not run itself but is actually run by the United Scottish Cultural Society (USCS). Memberships in this Society are for individuals only and presently cost $10 annually. No partner is required and you should wear FLAT, comfy shoes and loose clothing. SCD is, naturally, rooted in Scotland but there are groups in almost every country so you can learn here and then dance with other groups when you vacation or travel. SCD is not to be confused with Highland Dancing which is more solo dancing. SCD is usually done with a partner in groups or sets however you do not need to come with a partner. It is more akin to Square Dancing.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.vancouverceilidh.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/Canada-Flag-blue-sky.gif\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-7219\" src=\"https:\/\/www.vancouverceilidh.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/Canada-Flag-blue-sky.gif\" alt=\"Canada Flag blue sky\" width=\"68\" height=\"50\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>It takes a year or two of classes, workshops, etc. to learn the basics then you can hone your skills in advanced classes. You start by learning the steps and formations. Dances (of which there are over 13,000) are made up of these formations so a good grounding will give you the ability to learn a new dance fairly quickly. SCD has its HQ in Scotland and is known as the Royal Scottish Country Dance Society (RSCDS) and there is a Vancouver Branch of the RSCDS under which there are many clubs throughout the Province (there is also a Branch in Seattle).<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.vancouverceilidh.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/canada-flag-5.gif\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-7218\" src=\"https:\/\/www.vancouverceilidh.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/canada-flag-5.gif\" alt=\"canada flag 5\" width=\"149\" height=\"109\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>There are a great many classes and the ones in the Vancouver area are listed below. Come along \u2013 check us out \u2013 the first night is usually free and thereafter it will average about $6 a night and that\u2019s for a 2 hour class! You will find many friendly people who will be eager to help you and welcome you to their club. You never know you actually might like it!!
