The Centre does not run itself but is actually run by the United Scottish Cultural Society (USCS). Memberships in this Society are for individuals only and presently cost $10 annually. Membership Application Forms may be obtained either at the Centre or on the USCS website – www.scottishculturalcentre.com<\/a> . The cost is only $10.<\/p>\n Any person may join USCS and Scottish Country & Ceilidh Dancers are encouraged to show their support by doing so<\/span>. If any USCS member would like to be more involved, then, Darryl Carracher, the Manager at the Centre, will be pleased to give you further information.<\/p>\n EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE<\/p>\n llllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll<\/em><\/p>\n On the outskirts of a small town, there was a big old pecan tree just inside the cemetery fence.\u00a0 One day, two boys filled up a bucketful of nuts and<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong>sat down by the tree, out of sight, and began dividing the nuts.\u00a0\u00a0 <\/strong>‘One for you, one for me, one for you, one for me,’ said one boy.\u00a0<\/strong>\u00a0<\/strong>Several dropped and rolled down toward the fence.<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0Another boy came riding along the road on his bicycle.\u00a0 As he passed, he<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong>thought he heard voices from inside the cemetery, so he slowed down to<\/strong>\u00a0investigate.\u00a0 Sure enough, he heard, ‘One for you, one for me,<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong>one for you, one for me…’<\/strong><\/p>\n He just knew what it was.\u00a0 He had been going to Sunday School all his life.\u00a0 He jumped back on his bike and rode off.\u00a0 Just<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong>around the bend he met an old man with a cane, hobbling along.\u00a0\u00a0 <\/strong>‘Mister, come here quick,’ said the boy, ‘you won’t believe what I heard!\u00a0<\/strong>\u00a0<\/strong>Satan and the Lord are down at the cemetery dividing up the souls!’<\/strong><\/p>\n The man said, ‘Beat it kid, can’t you see it’s hard for me to walk.\u2019\u00a0 When<\/strong>\u00a0the boy insisted though, the man hobbled slowly to the cemetery.\u00a0\u00a0 <\/strong>Standing by the fence they heard, ‘One for you, one for me.\u00a0 One for you, one for me.’\u00a0 <\/strong>The old man whispered, ‘Boy, you’ve been tellin’ me the truth.\u00a0<\/strong>\u00a0<\/strong>Let’s see if we can see the Lord!\u2019<\/strong><\/p>\n Shaking with fear, they peered through the fence, yet were still<\/strong>\u00a0unable to see anything.\u00a0 The old man and the boy gripped the<\/strong>\u00a0wrought iron bars of the fence tighter and tighter as they\u00a0tried to get a glimpse of the Lord.\u00a0\u00a0 <\/strong>At last they heard, ‘One for you, one for me.\u00a0 That’s all.\u00a0Now let’s go get those nuts by the fence and we’ll be done…’<\/strong><\/p>\n They say the old man had the lead for a good half-mile<\/strong>\u00a0before the kid on the bike passed him.<\/strong><\/p>\n <\/p>\n ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++<\/p>\n The next Ceilidh Dance is\u00a0on Friday, March 31, 2017 – that is the last Friday of this month<\/span>.\u00a0 That will be the sixth one for the season and the third one of 2017. \u00a0There is\u00a0lots of time for you all to get yourselves and your friends organized to come along for another fun, filled\u00a0evening. Come and dance, it is lots of fun and really easy. Everything is taught from scratch – you won’s be the only newbie!\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n Michelle has very kindly made up a Facebook event page for the Ceilidh<\/span> but you need to “Search for Vancouver Ceilidh on Facebook and “Like” us to receive updates on upcoming Ceilidhs and other events”. Then, if you “Like” the Vancouver Ceilidh FB page (do as described above), you too will receive updates AND be able to share those updates and events on your personal Facebook page to your friends and ask that they “Like” and “Share”, etc. Ceilidh Dances are great ways to celebrate birthdays, anniversaries etc. Invite all your friends to come and join you at the Ceilidh.
