Waiting for the weather to clear on Suilven in Sutherland

A great Ceilidh with a super attendance of happy dancers to end the spring session.  My grateful thanks to Alison, the members of our band Calanais and to all the helpers for making this session so successful – they were each given a basket of fuchsias.

Now we will have to wait until September 29 for the next Ceilidh dance when we will start the fall session.  We will keep the same admission prices but Remember it is Cash Only both for admittance and for the refreshments.

Ceilidh dances are held in the Scottish Cultural Centre, 8886 Hudson Street, Vancouver.  There is a free class at 7 pm then the dance follows from 8 – 10:30 pm with live music by Calanais.  All easy dances that are taught and called and everyone has lots of fun and great exercise.  Tell your friends and make it an outing – it only costs $15 ($10 for students) and there are refreshments (including cider & beer) for a donation.  Remember it is “cash only” both for admittance and the refreshments.  Mark your calendars now and make plans to join the fun.

Fall 2023 Session dates are-
Friday September 29
October 27
November 24

If you have a group of 8 or more then the cost is $1 less for each of you.  You have to choose a password, make sure everyone in the group knows what it is then contact me at duncanmackenzie@telus.net at least two days before the dance & let me know you have a group and what the password will be, then you do not need to all arrive together.

Dancing in the Park (DITP) is happening again this summer so think about joining in the fun at Ceperley Playground near 2nd Beach in Stanley Park on Monday evenings starting June 19.  More details on the website www.vancouverceilidh.org – it is FREE except for parking!

The Scots – surely the last of the true romantics!

They have that unattainable touch that us mere mortals cannot hope to reach.

They bring a tear to the eyes of men who are limited by the mere behavioral trait of lesser human conditioning.

THE AFGHAN FOOTBALLER

The  Glasgow Rangers manager flies to  Kabul   to watch a young Afghani play football, is suitably impressed and arranges for him to come over.

Two weeks later Rangers are 4-0 down to Celtic with only 20 minutes left. The manager gives the young Afghani striker the nod and on he goes.

The lad is a sensation, scores 5 goals in 20 minutes and wins the game for Rangers. The fans are delighted, the players and coaches are delighted and the media love the new star.

When the player comes off the pitch he phones his mum to tell her about his first day in Scottish football.

‘Hello mum, guess what? I played for 20 minutes today, we were 4-0 down but I scored 5 and we won.
Everybody loves me, the fans, the media, they all love me.’

‘Wonderful,’ says his mum, ‘Let me tell you about my day. Your father got shot in the street and robbed, your sister and I were ambushed, raped and beaten and your brother has joined a gang of looters. And all while you were having such great time.’

The young lad is very upset. ‘What can I say mum, but I’m really sorry.’

‘Sorry?!!! Sorry?!!!’ shouts his mum. ‘It’s your bloody fault we came to Glasgow in the first place.’

Adam  and Eve

A  little girl asked her mother,
“How did the human  race start?”
The mother answered,
“God made Adam and Eve and they  had children, and so all mankind was made.”

Two  days later the girl asked her father the same question. The father answered,
“Many years ago there were monkeys from which the human race evolved.”

The  confused girl returned to her mother and said,
“Mum, how is it possible that  you told me the human race was created by God, and Dad said they developed from  monkeys?”
The mother answered,
“Well, dear, it is very simple.
I  told you about my side of the family and your father told you about  his.”

Directions to Heaven

A little boy was waiting for his mother to come out of the grocery store.   As he waited, he was approached by a man who asked, “Son, can you tell me where the Post Office is?”

The little boy replied, “Sure! Just go straight down this street a coupla blocks and turn to your right.”

The man thanked the boy kindly and said, “I’m the new pastor in town.   I’d  like for you to come to church on Sunday…I’ll show you how to get to Heaven.”

The little boy replied with a chuckle.  “You’re bullshitting me, right?   You don’t even know the way to the Post Office!”

One night a nurse was making her rounds in a nursing home.   While walking down the hall, she came across an open door.

She looked in and saw old Frank sitting up in bed pretending to drive.   She asked, ‘Frank, what are you doing?’

He replied, ‘I’m driving to Toronto.’

The nurse smiled at him and carried on making her rounds.

The next night as she walked past Frank’s room she saw the same thing.   Again she asked, ‘Frank, what are you doing?’

He replied, ‘I’m driving to Toronto.   It’s a two day trip, you know!’

The nurse smiled at him and carried on making her rounds.   Five minutes later she came across another open door and looked in.   She saw Bob pretending to dance with someone.

She then asked, ‘Bob, what are you doing?’

Bob replied, ‘I’m dancing with Frank’s wife.  He’s gone to Toronto for a couple of days.’
